Dynacare is currently searching for a Senior Clinical Laboratory Assistant to join the Product and Service Development team in Brampton, Ontario. This is a full time  position working  Monday – Friday 8am to 4pm. This position is responsible for preparation, packaging and shipping of proficiency testing material as per IQMH instructions. The position will also be involved with preparation of samples for routine analysis in the R&D lab as well as general house keeping duties.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES

List of critical duties that the incumbent is expected to perform

  • Preparation, Packaging and Shipping of proficiency material as per IQMH instructions
  • Coordinate inventory: tracking and ordering of supplies and ensuring adequate quantities are maintained 
  • Ensure all inquiries and problems are handled in a courteous and professional manner
  • Consult with department manager to assist with non-routine problems, troubleshooting or concerns
  • Store and discard specimens and materials according to appropriate department procedure manuals
  • Ensure that all samples are properly labeled and identified before testing
  • Verify and oversee quality, maintenance and housekeeping tasks performed by the team
  • Follow established protocol for the handling of samples
  • Operate complex instruments following department procedures independently
  • Maintain quality assurance records including results calculation verification
  • Perform simple non-interpretive testing procedures independently
  • Ensure that all abnormal, critical and STATS specimens are processed as outlined in the department guidelines
  • Responsible for the follow-up on missing samples, documentation and results as and when required
  • Ensure that quality control checks are performed as required in documented work instructions
  • Refer results to technologist to review if applicable
  • Responsible for monitoring quality control guidelines and making appropriate corrections
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance following documented procedures
  • Document all maintenance performed, including minor troubleshooting following manufacturer’s instructions
  • Observe and report all malfunctions in equipment and maintain all required logbooks for routine equipment
  • Provide input to management for improving performance
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive topics as appropriate

 

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Knowledge, educational requirements and relative experience required to perform the job

• Graduate of an approved laboratory assistant course or equivalent

• BSc or MLT certification would be an asset

Technical and social process skills required to perform the job

• Advanced skills applicable to senior tasks that may be assigned

• Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment

 

Social Process Skills

• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.

• Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team centered environment

• Excellent organizational and self-management skills to work independently
