The Senior Director, Promotions & Analytics, Market Division is accountable for leading the team to execute on all promotional activities including, flyer, customer-event and customer-program construct. The Senior Director Promotions & Analytics, Market division will be accountable for building a promotional plan to maximize sales and margin through advanced analytics on pricing and category management. The role will be responsible for managing and developing a team of technical analysts to build promotional models to improve sales, margin, and inventory results. The role will be responsible for being a forward thinker in the promotional space on how to continue to implement advanced analytical tools to improve the P&L results. Track record for maintaining high standards for the team and creating a great culture to want to improve results

This role influences, recommends, edits, and implements programs and events designed to increase sales, traffic, tonnage, and awareness for the banner’s brand and meet required targets based in critical analyses. They collaborate with several internal teams in promotion-related sales efforts, including but not limited to, merchandising, marketing, loyalty, supply chain and operations.

The Senior Director creates and maintains all program related documents, demonstrates thoughtful leadership, challenges the status quo, simplifies processes, and uses data to drive decision making.

Accountabilities:

  • Determine the events/themes required to achieve targets, reviews program roll-up to ensure its within financial and strategic parameters.
  • Provide divisional insight in postmortems, analyzes sales and product sell through
  • Review and prioritize project and analytical requests, assign resources as appropriate, ensure divisional mandates are adhered to.
  • Monitor progress of various projects and analytics and lead team to effectively communicate to Project Sponsors and Program Managers.
  • Collaborates with BU to identify opportunities to integrate in promotional programs
  • Support in-store weekly ads, as well as local and regional specific event planning
  • Collaborates with Loyalty team on PC Optimum program integration
  • Roll up individual category plans into a holistic promotional program
  • Participate in the ad creative meeting and update the business units regarding themes and graphics
  • Oversee changes to the promo program as the flyer evolves through the process
  • Oversee the communication of promotional plans and strategies (DMAP/Pocket Guide/Execution Guide) and all other promo marketing tools to Category & Operations and hand off the plan for execution
  • Work directly with category teams and Operations on planning promo strategies and coordinating plans
  • Liaise with BU teams on new program launches or enhancements, seasonal flips, to ensure clear understanding of objectives and desired execution
  • Build & Scale promotional models of pricing, item selection, and forecasting across all food categories
  • Partner with the merchandising teams to understand their category plans on a period/quarterly/annual basis to determine the implications to the promotional models
  • Create Weekly/Periodic/Quarterly/Annual sales and margin plans and work closely with the merchandising teams to understand the loyalty events and tactics that will influence the promotional model
  • Work with the merchandising teams on category deep dives to understand overall promotional performance through cannibalization, incremental sales, shelf sales, consumer insights, and market share performance
  • Review overall financials to ensure we are meeting the financial metrics of sales and margin for the week by pulling the levers and adjusting the dials of promotions and loyalty to hit the results.
  • Recommend trade-offs between categories and departments to optimize sales and margin for the total store
  • Present financial results to the business unit leads and advise of any necessary tradeoffs including the cost implications to the P&L
  • Ensure that all models are built with a consistent framework so there is alignment across the total store and preserve the quality of data as the inputs and outputs of the model are adjusted

Role Requirements:

  • 7-10 years of relevant work experience in retail, advertising, marketing or merchandising is an asset
  • Superior planning and strategic execution skills
  • Proven ability to lead a team
  • Proven ability to develop short and long-term plans in line with corporate strategies
  • High analytical and problem-solving skills, process driven
  • Excellent communicator up, down and across the enterprise
  • Strong cross functional capabilities to leverage BU teams, Supply Chain, BCS and Operations
  • Strong management, negotiation, and persuasion skills, optimizing outcomes for all parties concerned
  • Must be detail oriented and able to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have strong computer skills (specifically Excel and PowerPoint)
  • University degree in business administration or analytics with focus on risk and/or project management as an asset
