Linehaul Driver Trainer

The AZ Driver Trainer primary role is to promote on-road safety performance by facilitating and delivering superior driver training programs. The AZ Driver Trainer is responsible for coordinating, planning, and scheduling all training with HR, Operations and L&D business partners. The role will provide on-road and in class upskill training to AZ licensed candidates. The role will actively engage in on road training with a focus on Purolator transportation policies, defensive driving, and regulatory compliance on-road. The role will be required to provide in-class and in yard facilitation. The role will conduct on-road testing and certification for potential and existing commercial vehicle drivers with a focus on AZ qualified drivers. The role will also be required to assist drivers to remain compliant with provincial transportation regulations and communicate regulatory changes to business partners. This role is based in GTT (Toronto Area) but travel may be required based on candidate availability and operational need.

Responsibilities

The AZ Driver Trainer is responsible for the training and development of AZ licensed drivers either existing or new hires. This role will coach and train the drivers to varying degrees. Ensuring scheduling is communicated to all business partners including HR, Operations and L&D.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating, plannning and scheduling all training with HR, Operations and L&D business partners.
  • Provide on-road and in-class upskill training to AZ licensed candidates.
  • Conduct on-road testing and certification for potential and existing commercial vehicle drivers with a focus on AZ qualified drivers.
  • Assist drivers to remain compliant with provincial transportation regulations and communicate regulatory changes to business partners.
  • Provide recurrent training to linehaul workplace trainers to ensure they remain current with industry standards.
  • Recruiting new linehaul WPT’s
  • Provide ongoing input on training programs based on feedback form Operations, HR, and employees to make improvements in training content and processes.
  • Required to work varying shifts (days, afternoons, nights, weekends) depending on operational requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

This role requires the completion of High School plus linehaul driving and training experience. This role requires 5 years of verifiable tractor trailer driving experience and 3 years of tractor trailer training experience.

Required technical skills include:

  • Adult Learning Principals
  • Coaching Principles
  • Facilitation, presentation, and instruction skills
  • Experience with Hours-of-Service compliance systems (GeoTab preferred)
  • Demonstrated proficiency of Microsoft Office suite
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Air Brake systems (‘Z’ endorsement or equivalent required)
  • Certification as a Fleet Driver Trainer from an accredited training provider such as Infrastructure Health and Safety Association, Ontario Safety League, NATMI would be an asset.
  • Industry best practice of 5 years of verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years equivalent experience in tractor-trailer driver training required.
  • Clean provincial drivers’ and Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR) abstract with no criminal convictions.
  • Travel will be required in Ontario.
