Assists in maintaining a safe and secure environment for residents, visitors and other staff members.

All duties are performed in the best interest of the residents and their families and in accordance with Chartwell’s vision, mission and value statements.Key ActivitiesResident Relations:Ensures all nursing staff are able to meet resident care needs by providing and overseeing clinical education and training for Health Care Aides in topics such as palliative care, pain management, abuse prevention and awareness, etc.Monitors Health Care Aides activities to ensure that resident care standards are met and maintained in accordance with current policies and proceduresResponds to resident or family member concerns and ensures appropriate action is taken within decision-making authority and/or brings to the attention of the Director of CareLeadershipCollaborate with Director of Care to evaluate nursing staff competencies and identify required education/ training requirementsResearch/ identifies internal/ external programs to meet education/ training requirementsSchedules, co-ordinates and facilitates/ conducts in-service education programs to meet identified needsProvided leadership and direction to nursing staff in the provision of continuing care in the role of clinical nursing supportEnsures that resident care is consistent by constantly evaluating Health Care Aide work assignments and routines, residents care plans/ programsLeads and co-ordinates the Continuous Quality Improvement processLiaises with nursing department, committees and multi-disciplinary departments to advance goals and quality improvements plansCo-ordinate and communicate within the nursing department and external health care providers to ensure care plans are being followed and updated as requiredNetwork and Liases with Director of Care, educators and other health care aide professionalsParticipate on Quality Improvements Committee to develop and implement best practices through the organizationBudgeting & FinancialN/AMarketing & Occupancy:Effectively communicate and interacts with residents, family member, visitors and volunteers in a courteous and professional mannerRegulatory Compliance:Develops benchmarks and indicators to ensure standards are met and completes required auditsProvides support with investigations and makes recommendations on appropriate corrective actions where a serious incident has occurredEnsures that nursing staff is current in competencies, assessments, licensing, certifications, and other educational/ training requirementsConducts duties in accordance with Chartwell policies and procedures, as well as, government regulations, laws and policiesUnderstands and follows all health and safety policies and procedures.

Works safely to reduce the risk of injury of self, others staff members and residents.

Promptly reports all actual or potentially hazardous situationsMaintains confidentiality of residents’ person informationOperational &Administrative systems:Member of the Occupational Health and Safety committeeAttends offsite meeting as requiredAs an integral part of the site management team, participate in decision-making particularly related to health and safety and resident careSupports the Director of Care in all aspects of providing continuing careAssists with Workers compensation Board incidents, including liaising with staff on modified duties to ensure that they are supported in return-to-work programsMay schedule/ co-ordinate day to day nursing activities to ensure adequate staffing levelsMay assist/ participate in the recruitment, hiring, orientation and performance management process for Health Care AidesOtherCounsels staff on work related issuesPerforms other related duties as requiredQualificationsExperienceMinimum 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience in an Assisted Living or Long-Term Care community is preferredPrior experience working with seniorsMust have education experienceEducationPost-secondary education in an accredited nursing and current nursing registration as an RN in the province of employmentSkills and abilitiesGood organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-taskAbility to develop and deliver clinical trainingKnowledge of Continuing Care Health Services Standards (for support living) and policies and procedures for the province of employmentMust possess excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with residents and other staff membersExcellent conflict management skillsComputer literacy in a Windows environment including email, word, power point, and excelCustomer Service OrientationDirect ReportsN/ACandidates must be available to work Days, Evenings and Weekends.
