Why is this role important?

Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Enterprise Business Process Management, the Business Process Manager provides expertise around process analysis in areas such as risk analysis, process integration, impact assessment, project management, facilitation and leadership of a portfolio of projects.  

The focus of the role is to lead transformation initiatives in Canada’s biggest retailer utilizing a range of skills and methods (Lean, Six Sigma, Design Thinking, and/or Agile). The role combines managing large projects impacting multiple significant portions of the organization with the management and maintenance of business processes, ensures consistency within the business process, and supports integration / improvement projects as required. Primary responsibilities include leading Discovery for complex business problems, driving insights through data analytics, solutioning in terms of new and innovative process / tech designs, and communication to all levels of the organization. 

Role Accountabilities:

  • Support complex strategic business process / transformation projects, identify opportunities for productivity improvements, and simplify business complexities through innovative solutioning
  • As an internal consultant for the business, support all aspects of Discovery, root cause / detailed analysis and implementations through working with cross-functional teams across the enterprise 
  • Conduct Kaizen and prototype Workshops including facilitation of training, creation of summary reports and executive summaries on data analysis findings and complete follow up on tasks from workshop takeaways
  • Work with process teams to identify process, benefits and risks of proposed process changes and alignment to organizational strategic objectives.
  • Supports business initiatives and assist projects in early project deliverables, i.e. Key Performance Indicators (KPI) assessment, risk analysis.
  • Oversee reporting / tracking of KPIs in order to meet ongoing objectives
  • Provide thought leadership and / or industry knowledge and lead or participate in knowledge transfer within the team and other teams to foster continuous improvement in the business
  • Oversee the process changes and how they fit into the overall business process
  • Ensure delivery of end-to-end integration of processes and solutions are optimized and to best practice

Core Competencies:

  • Strong project and time management skills with the ability to prioritize competing projects
  • Ability to work with a high degree of detail and accuracy in a fast-paced environment constantly meeting deadlines
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills in order to effectively source information, obtain approvals, build relationships, and provide sufficient influence to achieve success
  • Must be a strong communicator and able to interact effectively with all levels of management
  • Creative problem solver and strategic thinker with a strong work ethic and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Competency in risk analysis, assessment and management

Role Requirements:

  • Well versed in Lean and/or Six Sigma with knowledge of Design Thinking, able to deliver concepts and principles, certification preferred.
  • Post-Secondary education in Industrial or Process Engineer / Technology.  Will consider Business or Operations consulting experience with MBA.
  • Min. 3 years Process Engineering / Improvement experience, methods analysis, time & motion studies, work sampling, and data analysis in a retail, or supply chain work environment
  • Ability to evaluate and analyze complex data and determine appropriate course of action towards objectives
  • Proficient at both Written and Oral Communication skills
  • Advanced skills of MS Office applications, in particular Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio.
  • Highly developed technical writing skills
  • 1-3 years of project management and / or agile experience
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects / priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven track record of taking initiative in a business environment
  • SAP experience an asset, but not required
  • Grocery retail, Supply Chain and or food distribution experience is a definite asset
