Why is this role important?

As a Senior Manager, Strategy within Loblaw Brands, you will have the opportunity to lead and execute strategy and drive to tangible outcomes by collaborating closely with the SVP of Loblaw Brands, and the VPs of Product Management, Product Development, Operations and Enablement. You will learn about our business, our biggest challenges, and assess different options to provide teams with fact-based, data-driven strategic recommendations. You will be working on multiple initiatives with senior leaders and be responsible for sharing your perspectives through a defined set of deliverables (e.g., PowerPoint presentation, Excel analysis, Word memo, etc.).

We are looking for a candidate that is innately driven by problem solving – taking an ambiguous issue, structuring it in a logical way, and working with a team to come to a set of recommendations.  You are good at building a narrative and story around a strategy or business issue.  You will need to manage cross-functional teams across the enterprise and drive towards initiative timelines, which will require a high degree of coordination and planning. You will also need to be able to work independently, be comfortable with shifting priorities, and to be able to think critically and share your thoughts on how we can drive meaningful change for our customers and our business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the development of our annual strategic plan and oversee execution across Loblaw Brands
  • Lead a wide range of initiatives by structuring complex business problems, organizing stakeholders against a strategic plan, synthesizing relevant data, and delivering actionable recommendations
  • Be a thought leader within Loblaw Brands by articulating a point of view on market trends, competitor activity, and industry innovation
  • Be the ambassador and owner of the strategic narrative for Loblaw Brands and ensure all  presentation content Loblaw Brands issues is in support of that
  • Document and codify key learnings and maintain a central knowledge repository around our strategy for the Strategy team

Role Requirements

  • 5+ years of work experience in a relevant field with demonstrated cross-functional project experience; this is a great opportunity for those with experience in consulting, corporate strategy, or retail
  • Can easily build relationships and have been part of large, cross functional teams that are working to solve complex problems
  • Have the ability to translate a complex issue into a strategy
  • Possess a structured problem-solving approach and strong analytical capabilities to develop thoughtful recommendations
  • Possess the skill to translate thinking into a story narrative both verbal and written
  • Strong competency in presentation development (PowerPoint) and data analysis (Excel), and can synthesize and communicate information in a clear and succinct way
