As of March 2022 Loblaw has adopted the following Hybrid working model (a combination of working between the office and remotely).  Colleagues will continue working remotely up to 2 days a week, while spending the other 3 days in the office.

Loblaw Companies Limited’s Legal Group provides legal services and support to a large number of Loblaw’s business units in the following practice areas: commercial real estate, leasing, regulatory, and general commercial law.   We currently have an opportunity for a candidate to join our legal team as a summer student. We offer a challenging work environment that is built on a strong “blue” culture of teamwork.

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide administrative support on various real estate/leasing projects, including preparation of Land Titles registration documents within Teraview (we will educate the student on how to use this electronic program) and due diligence review and analysis of existing leases to support rollout of business initiatives;

  • Conduct analysis of specific provisions of leases and preparing legal memoranda on specific issues for the business;

  • Assist in purchase/sale transactions of real property,

  • Assist in drafting reference materials to communicate internal processes;

  • Provide assistance in reviewing, preparing and amending legal documents such as lease amending agreements, estoppel certificates and letters to Landlord

The successful candidate will be working with and taking direction from a legal team of two lawyers and two law clerks. 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Team player

  • Basic knowledge of, or an interest in, real estate/leasing law

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • Excellent organizational skills;

  • Excellent drafting skills;

  • Attention to detail and accuracy;

  • Ability to demonstrate good judgment; and

  • Strong computer skills including an excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of Undergraduate University

  • Minimum completion of Year 1 of Law School

  • Provide a copy of your latest transcripts with your application.
