Primary responsibility is focused on maintenance, repair & overhaul of DC production equipment, including towline systems, ASRS cranes, automated conveyor systems, mobile equipment/Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) and other miscellaneous production equipment. Key deliverables are for implementation of planned and corrective maintenance scheduled work to improve asset life and for rapid and effective servicing of breakdown repairs. The other responsibility is lead role on building services, ensuring proper upkeep of building fabric, managing applicable building-related capital projects, supervising repairs with internal staff and contractors, and participating in Supply Chain major capital projects as building contact.

The successful applicant ensures staff have all the required skills and tools and are working on the right things at the right times. The daily focus is on health & safety, quality, process and productivity. This coordinator will ensure his team is trained to required technical and safety standards for their individual roles and meet or exceed CT standards for H&S safe working practices while working on equipment.

This position coordinates and supervises the execution of the maintenance work plan for Building Services team when their Coordinator is absent and, as required, works with the Maintenance Planning team to schedule related or carryover work to the shift maintenance teams to ensure compliance to the plan.

This role requires Coordinator to plan/schedule work for their building services team for:

  • Building fabric (flooring, walls, minor roofing, bathrooms), water coolers/eyewash stations
  • Site storm and sanitary sewers
  • Sprinkler & fire safety systems, including Data Center & all diesel fire pumps
  • Site HVAC, including Data Center
  • Landscaping and yard pavement
  • Site electrical, including all diesel generators
  • Mobile vehicle repair continuity between shifts/shift Coordinators
  • Dock & overhead fire doors
  • Improvements to mobile & AGV fleet operations

This Coordinator works with the Planning Group to ensure mobile equipment repairs are maintained and executed per plan across the maintenance shifts. The Coordinator also provides current performance characteristics of mobile fleet to assist in repair/replace optioning and provides long-term outlook/strategy for building services upkeep and upgrades.

The incumbent will keep the Maintenance Manager and key stakeholders informed of the major issues and activities but due to the nature of the department may have to make independent decisions and take actions in order to accomplish the objectives. They will also ensure Canadian Tire's principles, guidelines and standards where defined are adhered followed.

The incumbent may be required to assist in overtime coverage for other coordinators for weekends or other times when the day shift coordinator on the opposite end of the week is absent for vacation, training etc. and no other coverage options are available.

What you’ll do

  • Communicate with Team to resolve ongoing technical problems, provide expertise and support on technical issues.
  • Provide focus for all shifts to outstanding mobile truck/AGV fleet carryover issues and repairs, and improvement initiatives
  • Work with mobile teams to improve automated guided vehicle reliability and uptime
  • Keep Manager and stakeholders updated on building fabric and proactive repair issues; ensure building preventive maintenance supports extended facility life and lower repair costs through applicable PM, scheduled building audits, etc. as required.
  • Communicate to oncoming shift Coordinator or designate carry over problems that will require completion for mobile equipment and building services
  • Ensure that work-in progress and completed work meets the standards established by the Maintenance Department
  • Monitor production requirements during shift to meet operational requirements
  • Provide direction, leadership and problem-solving guidance to employees
  • Administer company policies and procedures
  • Develop responsibility amongst employees
  • Identify training requirements, support employee review process, coaching sessions and disciplinary sessions as appropriate
  • Actively seek and promote the implementation of new ideas/solutions by Trades team to improve equipment and Maintenance operations, safety, productivity, efficiency, etc.
  • Ensure team members log all relevant work order details for scheduled/unscheduled work in Maximo

What you bring

  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma Required (Engineering or Technical Discipline) or Certificate of Qualification (Trade License, e.g., Industrial Electrician, Industrial Mechanic)
  • 10 years in maintenance trades role (Industrial Electrician, Industrial Mechanic, Powered Lift Truck Technician)
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to problem solve and make decisions
  • Strong computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Microsoft project
  • Self-motivated individual who works well with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated knowledge of maintenance planning techniques, work-order flow, pro-active verses re-active work and working knowledge of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Maximo is an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • 3-55+ years supervisory experience in the maintenance field or demonstrable equivalent experience
  • Building maintenance and/or mobile fleet experience
  • 3-phase power distribution systems
  • Maximo computerized maintenance management software experience
