Under the direction of the general manager, the production manager is to manage the operations department through supervising the activities of assigned personnel, and ensuring successful completion of all awarded tool programs, engineering changes and engineering projects.
**The successful candidate for this role will work at our new Magna Structures Heart Lake facility located in Brampton, ON**
• Manage all facility activities and personnel reporting to this position
• Maintain effective communication and coordination with all internal customers, plant management and associates; maintain positive employee relations; listen to issues and concerns and respond in a timely manner
• Oversee and direct Engineering associates in safe, quality-minded and productive manner with a sense of urgency to attain production priorities as scheduled
• Support new program launches
• Provide motivation and results-oriented environment
• Determine, achieve, and improve productivity, quality, environmental, health and safety goals
• Conduct performance evaluations of Engineering staff as specified by company goals
• Manage awarded tool programs, engineering changes and engineering projects to successful outcomes
• Administer Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) to customer standards
• Review all incoming drawings, CAD data, sketches, EWO’s, Fast trackers, etc., effecting current and awarded business
• Manage tooling program cost accounting
• Complete customer correspondence and act as liaison with customer buyers, engineers and quality personnel as required
• Interface with tooling vendors and material suppliers directly and through tooling engineers
• Report on status of departmental projects as required
• Ensure all employee documentation is maintained
• Champion quote teams to respond to customer requests for quotes
• Lead Continuous Improvement Team
• Interface and collaborate with all other departments to produce best quality product at least possible cost
• Approve all tooling related purchase orders prior to release of work
• Approve all tooling related invoices prior to payment
• Complete correspondence, forms and reports via applicable software programs
• Participate in Continual Improvement activities
EDUCATION:
• Grade 12 Diploma required
• Bachelor’s degree or other technical training/Certificate preferred
WORK EXPERIENCE:
• 3 years of technical maintenance or electrical controls experience required
• Tool Designer with experience in designing dies, fixtures, inspection gages, and/or special machines preferred
• Minimum 10 years of experience in the automotive industry
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in managing/leading people – automated assembly department preferred
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• Good communication skills including ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, employees, suppliers and customers
• Strong hands-on, day-to-day operational and troubleshooting skills
• Able to demonstrate understanding of how job performance affects product quality and customer satisfaction
• Able to determine manufacturing feasibility of automotive stampings and assemblies from their piece part drawings
• Able to concept complex and cost effective MIG welding, spot welding, and assembly tooling for automotive parts and assemblies, such as pillars, root rails, rear suspension cross members, bumper impact beams, transmission supports, etc.
• Able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures
• Able to manage and schedule multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Able to use computer and software as required
• Able to maintain confidentiality, and use discretion and tact
