Senior Buyer

This is a Contract position in Brampton, ON posted September 14, 2023.

Group Description

The Magna Exteriors portfolio of products includes access systems such as liftgates, exterior trim, modular systems, front-end modules including fascia, active aerodynamic systems and other lightweight structural components for automotive, commercial truck and other industrial markets.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and gather market business intelligence ensuring availability of up-to-date knowledge on products, prices, suppliers, trends, etc. in the market and advise potential users
• Assist in the development and implementation of strategic and operational plans in support of the company’s goals and objectives for all goods and/or services procured
• Back up and support other members of the Purchasing Department including the Purchasing Manager
• Conduct capital payback lease-versus-buy, make-versus-buy analyses
• Negotiate purchasing agreements with Tooling , Capital Equipment’s, Checking Fixtures suppliers with a view to reduce cost and improve quality issues, checking and signing Purchase Order for price, terms, quantity, backup, authorization and when all is acceptable sign, otherwise return for corrections to be made
• Responsible for sending out Request for Quotes and recommending sourcing options
• Responsible for Negotiating best Value for goods and/or Services
• Responsible for targeting and implementing cost reduction programs through individual and departmental goals
• Continuously market test our products for both Direct Buy and MRO buy to ensure that product being purchased is price, quality and technologically competitive within the market place
• Support the Quality Department regarding material issues
• Developing and maintaining strong relationships with Suppliers
• Maintain a strong and effective teamwork relationship with both internal and external organizations
• Support Sales Department for new business
• Represent Purchasing department on CFT such as new product launch and/or Advanced Quality Planning and support APQP process by issuing pre-production releases to suppliers
• Complete Special Projects requested by Manager
• Be part of any projects that may be assigned by Manager. This may include assisting and being involved with different aspects of the department
• Manage and monitor supplier performance with the intent to develop and optimized supply chain
• Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of policies/procedures based upon improving business process flow and maximizing MRP system capability
• Perform all job functions in a safe and healthful manner, abiding by all health, safety and environmental rules and regulations, promoting safety in the workplace
• Comply with the requirements of C-TPAT/PIP
• Conduct business in an ethical manner in compliance with the Magna Code of Conduct
• Report all accidents/incidents and unsafe conditions/behavior
• Adhere to applicable quality systems and IATF16949 standards
• Adhere to and promote the Employee Charter and work within the rules, regulations and guidelines of the Plastcoat Employee Handbook
• Participate in and support Continuous Improvement initiatives
• Maintain work area in accordance with the principles of 5S and operate daily within these standards
• Ensure work area is kept neat and organized
• Perform other duties as required

Key Qualifications/Requirements

EDUCATION:
• Minimum completion of College diploma in Business Administration or related field
EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum 5 years work experience in purchasing fundamentals or equivalent experience
SKILLS:
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Computer literate in word & spreadsheet programs
• Demonstrated ability to effectively solve problems
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Well-developed organizational and time management skills
• Ability to work in an environment that encourages and fosters teamwork; participation, creativity, openness, honesty and mutual respect
