If so, consider the following opportunity Breakfast Television, Canada’s award-winning morning show, is looking for a part-time Multi-Media News Content Creator.

Reporting to the Supervising Producer, the ideal candidate has experience and competence in many of the skills required to work in a modern, multi-platform, continuous news operation, and an aptitude and desire to learn more.

You have a passion for local and national news, strong editorial judgement, and you are looking for an opportunity to learn and grow while working alongside a talented, innovative and fun team of journalists and producers.

Writing, chasing, researching, producing, pitching, interviewing, vetting, basic shooting and desktop editing
– you have, or with training are on your way to having, the ability to create journalistic content from the idea stage to publishing or broadcast.

You will bring unique ideas, a hunger to relentlessly chase story leads, and a passion to think outside the box.

No interview ‘get’ is too ambitious for you, and you are committed to excellence in on air and digital presentation.

You also thrive in an early-morning environment with a goal of starting viewers’ and readers’ day with engaging, informative and enterprising news content.

Cold calls, gathering resources, and hitting the ground running with your chasing is the name of the game in this role.

No hour is too early to find the right guest to add context to news.

What you’ll do
– Working independently or as part of a team, you will create fast-paced, compelling and informative news content for our broadcast and digital properties.

– Coordinating or assigning newsroom and field resources to gather elements and create news content.

– Emailing, Tweeting, calling and interviewing people as you chase, research, and create enterprise or breaking news stories.

– Pitching during daily creative brainstorms and story meetings
– Creating, independently or as part of a team, innovative video content optimized for a digital audience.

– Working early hours into the day to stay on top of story leads
– Writing content for both broadcast and digital/social properties pertaining to news of day or enterprise chases
– Contributing to the overall flow and pacing of BT Requirements
– Proven experience in TV and/or digital news producing, writing, shooting, editing, or reporting
– Creative vision and keen editorial judgment
– Superior writing, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
– The ability to research, pitch and copy-edit story ideas, including enterprise news, and context or sidebars on breaking news content for television, radio, and digital platforms including fact checking.

– The ability to book and pre-interview guests, arranging necessary resources, and packaging the content.

– Regularly create, edit, and publish digital content in our content management system (WordPress), including headlines and media.

– Ensure our digital sites are updated with the very latest local, national and international news stories, and that our pages and apps are optimized for reach and engagement.

– Vet scripts and web copy from junior staffers
– Delivery and promotion of digital content on our social channels, whether created by the MMCC or others, including audience engagement.

– Visual editing and basic photography skills an asset
– Shift work required (mornings, evenings and weekends)
– An appetite to learn and grow What you bring
– Experience in news television producing, writing and/or reporting
– An ability to write and update news scripts clearly, concisely, and with quick turnaround
– Ability to work individually and part of a team
– Creative vision and keen editorial judgment
– Superior writing, organizational and interpersonal skills
– Control room and field production experience an asset.

– A broadcast journalism diploma or equivalent experience
– Shift work required
– Sound communication skills.
