Role Summary

To manage all functions within the Human Resources Department including Health and Safety, Environmental, Compensation/Benefits Administration, Payroll and Recruitment.


**The successful candidate for this role will work at our new Magna EV battery enclosures facility located in Brampton, ON**

Key Responsibilities
  • To remain current on all aspects of human relations, wage management, manpower planning, recruitment and selection strategies, health and safety, environmental, and training and development issues or trends and provide support, advise, or influence where appropriate/necessary, to all leaders regarding policies, procedures, work practices where there is the potential to negatively impact labour relations, quality of work life, or compliance to established standards (legislation, divisional, corporate)
  • Effectively develop and lead all direct reports within the HR Department to ensure all services are provided at the highest level of quality and timeliness while maintaining confidentiality at all times
  • Develop and foster strong working relationships with all employees, department managers, Management Team members, direct reports, committees and teams so each will feel comfortable seeking support for HR related issues, while reinforcing the Open Door Process (ODP) and confidentiality
  • Develop, implement and oversee all HR systems for the division, including hiring, performance management, training & development, health & safety, environmental, and other HR systems required by the division
  • Influence the development, implementation of, or changes, to labour relation strategies necessary to foster the Magna Employee’s Charter Principles and preserve a strong cultural foundation, quality work life environment within the division and drive any resulting programs or strategies as assigned
  • Establish and maintain effective policies and procedures for the division to ensure fair and consistent treatment of all employees, including maintaining the Employee Handbook and overseeing all matters pertaining to the application of hiring and advancements, progressive discipline, termination, lay-off or recalls, health and safety, or any other employee relations issue that may arise 
  • Facilitate open communication to all employees using various methods including monthly Employee Meetings, presentations, postings and other effective approaches
  • Establish and implement HR Department key performance indicators, benchmarked for continuous improvement.
  • Attend meetings necessary to ensure ongoing understanding of quality of work life and labour relations’ issues including Health and Safety committees, Advocate, Fairness Committee, Plant meetings, Production meetings, etc.
  • Responsible to adhere to all Health and Safety programs in accordance with the O.H.S.A.  Follow and ensure the Division’s procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed throughout the plant.
  • Ensure the preparation, timely submission and effective management of HR Dept. annual budget, and adherence to approved budget
  • Ensure that you work and operate equipment according to Division’s safety rules and regulations.
  • Ensure that your department is clean, tidy, organized and a safe workplace at all times.
  • Follow environmental protocol as prescribed by the Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Continuously adhere to and apply the Magna Employee’s Charter, the Magna Corporate Constitution, and the Cosma Way of Thinking in all aspects of position and interaction with others.
  • Understands and follows established rules, procedures and policies relating to position
  • Ensure a safe working environment by observing safe work practices and by following all safety policies and procedures
  • Conduct accident/incident investigations
  • Work safely and within the guidelines of the company employee Handbook,
  • TS16949 awareness and adherence
  • ISO14001 awareness and adherence
  • Lean Manufacturing and 5S concepts awareness and adherence,
  • Performs other duties as required.
Key Qualifications/Requirements

•    Equivalent to completion of High School Education
•    Must have Post-Secondary Certificate in Human Resources Management or equivalent
•    Post-Secondary Certificate for Labour Relations Specialist considered an asset
•    Must have skill gained by experience minimum 5-10 years
•    Must have excellent communication, mediation, organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills
•    Must be proficient in computer use – Microsoft office and HRIS

•    Must have strong leadership skills, must be able to lead by example whenever necessary and promote a team approach to problem solving
•    Must have sound knowledge of employment related legislative requirements

•    Must be capable of working under pressure and with short completion times on projects
