Assistant Materials Manager

Magna International

This is a Full-time position in Brampton, ON posted September 7, 2019.

Job Introduction The Assistant Materials Manager must ensure appropriate supply of materials and service to support production to meet customer demand.

Major Responsibilities Assists the Materials Manager in all aspects of materials management and leadership of the materials team.

Participation in management coverage in both east and west locations.

Regular rotation between the two plants.

Leads, manages and monitors inventory levels, on-time shipment of finished goods, material handling, warehousing/shipping of goods, and the release, receipt, and storage of raw materials.

Has complete ownership of material movement and storage from start to finish.

Assists in establishing inventory objectives and assumes responsibility for inventory turns and stock rotation.

Reviews, identifies, and minimizes obsolete inventory.

Recommends disposition within established guidelines.

Drives reduction of premium freight and regular freight.

Develops, manages, and ensures effectiveness of master production schedule by utilizing input from sales forecast customer demand, material availability, capacity planning to ensure management goals and objectives are met.

Coaches, leads and develops staff members to reach their best potential.

Ensures compliance with Deco’s quality and safety policies and procedures.

Enforce company and safety rules, document violations and propose necessary disciplinary actions.

Perform regular workplace inspections.

Conduct safety talks, staff meetings and department/line meetings.

Conduct timely accident/incident investigations and implement corrective action.

Ensure that new employees are trained on department hazards and safe operation of equipment.

Work within the guidelines of the Deco Employee Handbook.

Commitment to continuous improvement and work place safety.

Any other tasks as assigned by management.

Knowledge and Education College or University diploma/degree in Supply Chain management or equivalent SCMP designation preferred or equivalent Must have good MRP skills and prefer working knowledge of CMS.

Excellent communication skills.

Good computer skills
– excel, word, email etc.

Work Experience Five years materials supervisory experience in the automotive industry.

Skills and Competencies Required to possess a mature, consistent attitude towards the responsibilities of the job.

Must have strong leadership skills, must be able to lead by example whenever necessary and promote a team approach to problem solving.

Must have sound knowledge of employment related legislative requirements.

Must be self-motivated and display the skills required to develop and motivate employees.

Must be capable of working under pressure and with short completion times on projects.
